This Spring I was recruited to be the new Emergency
Services Director for the Greater Westfield Red Cross. I am a volunteer at this position. I spent many hours training this
Spring, Summer, and Fall to be certified as an Emergency Services Director.
I hope to soon have all the training completed and finish the certification.
After taking several training classes I am now able
to be the Team Leader for the ARC DAT . I am on call when I can be. There are many other members who volunteer with me and
the rest of the DAT team. We all share in the Team Leader position and Associate Responder position as needed.
Recently I trained to drive and operate the ECRV, this is the American
Red Cross Emergency Communication Response Vehicle. I will be on call for the whole month of November 2008 with Chuck Ford
from the Pioneer Valley Red Cross Chapter.
We both took the 4 day class to learn how to use this awesome vehicle!
On June 21st 2007 at 1pm my family woke to a house
fire. We all survived but we lost our 2 cats. The morning of the fire my wife Ellen and her sister Pam called the American
Red Cross in Westfield. The Disaster Assistance Team ( DAT ) came right out to meet us. We were dazed, confused, and needed
help.
Jen Perfect and Eric Vogel were part of the team that came to our aide.
They provided my family with a place to stay for three days and a debit card so we could buy food and clothes. They also gave
us each a plastic bag that was filled with all sorts of toiletries !
This was so wonderful to have someone who we never met before come and
help us in our time of need ! ! !
I decided I wanted to give back to this organization that helped me and
my family. So I contacted Jen Perfect and she told me about the ( DAT ). I asked if I could join. She said yes. So now I am
able to help out families in need just like my family was in need.
